The detention center at Guantánamo opened on January 11th, 2002. Every year since 2006, Witness Against Torture has marked that date with a demonstration calling for the closing of America’s offshore prison. The 2017 demonstration focused on the nine men who died in custody at Guantánamo, never charged with a crime.
